The Exeter Blitz Project

1 - 19th May 2012 at The Bike Shed Theatre

A collaboration between Viva Voce and The Bike Shed Theatre to share and celebrate the real-life stories of those who experienced the Exeter Blitz to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the raid on May 4th, 1942.

See The Exeter Blitz Project for more details.

Approach

Viva Voce believes in the power of people's stories, as well as giving back to the community. The first collaboration of Viva Voce was a production of Less Than a Year by Helena Enright, a documentary piece about an Irish couple who lost their teenage daughter to cancer, raising money for the UK Bone Cancer Research Trust.

Reviews

"Helena Enright's enthralling Theatre of Testimony piece...is not a sob-fest, it is not even a depressing piece, somehow, out of this terrible situation the sheer normality and simplicity of these people's emotions makes it a fascinating and compelling story to watch."
*****UK Theatre Web

"Jessica Beck's direction has a light touch allowing the story to be told without distraction (a distinct improvement over TV docu-style!) and allowing the emotions to be felt without the story becoming depressing or maudlin."
